Fighting
a Fire / What
is the cause of explosions in fire fighting

Hot smoldering phase occurs
when the oxygen in the area is consumed. So there will
be a very high temperature and burning is incomplete because
of the inefficient oxygen to sustain the fire. The more
incomplete the combustion, the more the Co produced. Co
is a colorless , oderless, poisonous, explosive and flammable
gas. Two of the elements necessary to produce fire, heat
and fuel, are available in the structure. Only oxygen
in the area is supplied through improper ventilation such
as opening a door or breaking a window, the accumulated
gas will ignite into rapidly spreading fire for a violent
explosion. This is a backdraft. Which very often happens
with unexperienced fire fighters.
Give first aid where appropriate. Seriously injured victims
should be transported to professional medical help immediately.
Stay out of the damaged building. Return only when fire
authorities say it is safe.
Be
Careful of Halogen Lights
If you have halogen lights, make sure they are away from
flammable drapes and low ceiling areas. Never leave them
on when you leave your home or office.
