Only a complete security plan can render premises as secure as humanly pos- sible. In an ideal society, there would be no need for security measures at all, however that is unfortunately not the case and our primary objective is the preservation of life, and second- ary the preservation of property and the  prevention  against  loss of busi- ness.  Procedures need to be imple- mented before an attack in a proac- tive  security  action  as  opposed  to reactive.  Staff  needs  to  be  trained and supervised to ensure the requi- site level of professionalism. To this purpose, there is a number of equip- ment that can assist but without the proper  advice  such  equipment  are only  costly  and  will  not  be  able  to respond  alone  to  the  current  threat as  security is supposed to do. Still people   alone,   although   the   most important factor of the security equa- tion,  will  not  be  able  to  effectively protect life without the proper equip- ment,  such  as:  walkthrough  detec- tors,    explosive    detectors,    x-ray machines,  crash-rated  road  block- ers,   digital   recording  and  access control  of  restricted  areas, counter- surveillance systems,  jammers  of radio frequency and in some cases bomb blast neutralizers. Both   long   experienced  companies  in  our respective domains, we have decided for a partnership to market lightning and overvolt- age  protection  products,  developed  and  produced  by LEUTRON, a name known in the German market since 1947 as a synonym for safety and reliability. In the sixties, LEUTRON became a daughter company of the Swiss CERBERUS Group after many years of success- ful production of Metal/Ceramics Gas Discharge Tubes (GDT). In 1986, LEUTRON started with the development and production of high level Lightning Surge protective devices (SPD) for Data lines. A short time after, many new innovative  products  were  developed  by  CER- BERUS - LEUTRON: The first low voltage 100V gas filled 100kA miniature Isolating Spark Gaps with  fail  safe  was  developed  for  the  need  of equipotential   bonding   of   different   separated grounding systems in  case of lightning surges, followed  by  a  program  of  SPD  for  Data-  and power lines with DIN rail housings for building installations,   exported   under   the   CERBERUS brand. Five years after SIEMENS bought the whole CERBERUS - LEUTRON  Group, myself,  Joerg  Jelen  the  LEUTRON Development & Product Manager, became new Owner and Managing Director of LEUTRON GmbH by a man- agement buy-out in year 2000. All the patents and pro- duction technologies were transferred in 2000 from CER- BERUS / Switzerland to LEUTRON / Germany. In the time between 2000 and today many new innovative develop- ments  were  started  and  many  patented  products  previ- ously developed and produced were improved and pre- sented to the market with big success. Such products like: The EX proved TC 100A Isolating Spark Gap, became in 2003   the   world’s   first   ATEX approved EX - Spark Gap. The program  was  enlarged  by  the TC 500A type which was ATEX approved in 2004. This version  is  used  on  such  places  where  the  induced  AC voltage is higher than the static spark - over voltage value of  the  70/100V  type  TC  100A.  Mounting  accessories such as confectioned  cable sets and zinc plated mount- ing brackets were included in the delivery program. The world’s first light- ning   none   chemical   AC   current diverter  for  AC  current  protection  of Cathodic Corrosion Protection Devices,   the   so-called   Pipe   Line Protector  PLPro  for  40A  up  to  200A AC,  has  been  in  operation  for  12 years  without  any  sort  of  trouble  or damage (information source: SWISSGAS). It was further improved and built in a new rainproof plas- tic housing for universal installation, with strong stainless steel terminals for grounding and measuring circuit. The  new  applied  HF  -  filter  enables leakages search on the pipeline with- out interrupting the grounding line at the   device.  It  is maintenance free, contains no liquids and saves a lot of service   costs.   Distance   control   by GSM   based   data   transfer   is   also available for delivery now. A new Multi - Arc Spark which combines the advantage of a Varistor and a Spark Gap in   one   element,   without having  their  disadvantages was  invented  and  the  new PowerPro   SPD   series   was born. Also in the year 2004, LEUTRON's new GDT series was introduced to the market in many variations with a range from 5kA to 20kA 8/20µs as an improved remake of the well known CERBERUS - LEUTRON gas tube arresters . The  system constitutes of  a 5  on CO₂ vessel, refrigeration unit, zone valves, Fire Alarm control panel and a detection system. The  Testing  was done jointly  with  MINIMAX  of Germany,  who are the suppliers of  the system and  carried  out  in  the  presence  of  the  owner, SKP and Technobuild. After the successful completion of the field test- ing, a live dump test was carried out in one of the rooms protected during which a 1.5 Tons of pure CO₂ Gas was dumped. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all  those  who  were  involved  either  directly  or indirectly in the project. ZOD  Security  was  recently  awarded the  Fire  Suppression  for  the  Power House  at  PAC  New  Headquarters  in Adma  which  consists  of  a  low  pres- sure Fine Water Spray fire extinguish- ing system from SECURIPLEX, designed  to  protect  18  Generators and 2 Fuel tank Rooms. It uses twin fluid nozzles where air (or nitrogen) and water are atomized in a mixing   chamber   to   develop   water droplets with a Dv 0.90 less than 200 µm.  The open nozzle shall operate at a  maximum  water  pressure  of  100 psig (6.9 barg). The Fine Water Spray system is designed to insure an ade- quate  air  and  water  supply  to  extin- guish the fire. The system is self-con- tained,  and  therefore  water  and  air storage is provided. The system is supplied with automatic fire    detectors,    manual    signaling devices, a SECURIPLEX Model 1010 conventional fire alarm control panel, audible/visual  signaling  devices  and all associated wiring. Water Mist System for PAC Power House SGH-LP CO2 Fire Suppression System More Security for the UK Embassy The UK Embassy in Lebanon has contracted ZOD Security to install new securi- ty systems at the new Embassy Complex in BCD. These systems include: DELTA  DSC  501  crash  rated  barricades which can stop a 15,000 pound truck mov- ing at 80 kph with zero penetration and still be fully operational afterwards, meeting the US government highest levels. TOMSED high security full height stainless steel turnstile electrically operated to control and supervise the access to the complex. A handicaped gate is also pro- vided to grant handicap accessibility in conjunction with the turnstile. Complete CCTV surveillance based on 16 channels Digital Video Recorder pro- viding triplex operation and very high resolution of 520 TVL, fixed and mobile dome cameras for variable speed and zoom control, 352x optical and digital zoom, 64 preset positions, privacy masking and many innovative features.

The system features 84 CTX300 CO detectors covering four parking floors and monitored by two panels MX52. OLDHAM CTX300 CO detectors are IP 66 made of high impact polycarbonate, which make them typ- ical for parking applications. The system provides remarkable features includ- ing its averaging capability whereas it is possible to average the reading from multiple  CO  sensors  in  a  common  area  and  to  drive  the  ventilation  system accordingly. The system also incorporates a "Parking Software" which enables a coordinated control of two speed fans, thus avoiding the destruction of fans due to sudden change-over of speed. This type of door combines high opening speed and easy access along with maximum safety and comfort for the users. The  doors  are  from  MANUSA,  the  well- known Spanish manufacturer, and provide the fastest opening speed on the market, up to 200cm/sec. Also, ZOD team installed such a system in the new offices of the Lebanese con- tractor, Karagulla, at the Bloc 24 center.   Clemenceau Medical Center Installs BRUYNZEEL Mobile Archive In a continuous effort to increase the technical know how of its sales force, ZOD Security hosted a full day training session conducted by the sales manager and the technical engi- neer  of  IDTECK    for  Biometric  Identification.  The  training  covered  all  the  new  Access Control and Time & Attendance systems with emphasize on the biometrics systems like the Fingerprint 007 which has been successfully installed in thousands of sites worldwide. Also, ZOD Security was represented by its Technical and After-Sales Div. Manager, Eng. Elias Rhaiem, in a seminar which was held on October 9 - 10 in Dubai (UAE) and which covered a wide range of IDTECK products, especially new items like the ITDC-EL eleva- tor  control  as  well  as  a  technical  training  for  installation,  software  types  and  trouble shooting. All  issues  concerning  physical  and electronic protection were discussed, and   tips   were   given   to   increase awareness  on  the  subject.  The  TV audience   was   able   to   see   the described   systems  including safes, special locks, and alarms. 3^rd Interview by LBCI TeaTime BS  EN  ISO  9001:  2000 Certificate  No.  FS  72352 Various Lightning Protection Seminars Following   our   previous   success, several  seminars  were  again  con- ducted this year covering Lightning and Surge Protection. The first was intended for electrical consultants and focused on the lat- est international norms and design principles. It also gave an overview on the LEUTRON Surge Protective Devices and their premium characteristics. The second seminar was aimed at electrical installers. It emphasized mainly the installation of external and internal lightning protection systems, introduced the LEUTRON range of products and included practical examples on their methods of applications. Both events were conducted in the training center newly estab- lished in our premises. In line with our regular training policy, a presentation was held to the Engineering and  Sales  depart.  of  the  company  con- cerning  Lightning  and  Surge  protection devices emphasizing LEUTRON products. Customer Service and Communication Training for ZOD Employees In an effort to improve the overall performance of the company, and in parallel with the career development of each one of its staff, the man- agement of ZOD Security chose Dr. Naji Bejjani to conduct an in-house training tackling the issues of Customers Service and Communication. Dr. Bejjani, who is a training expert in Lebanon, used the small group training approach allow- ing   trainees   to   express themselves at any time, thus testing some ideas and challenging others. The seminar was conducted over a three days period and took place in the newly inaugurated Conference and Training Center at ZOD premises. This new facility is being used also to conduct all in house training given to ZOD staff or electrical contractors.
