1 F a l l   2 0 0 3 ZOD Security N E W S L E T T E R I  am  pleased  to  inform you  that  in  June  2003 we   received   the   long awaited  audit  from  BSI and  we  are  now  proud to    hold    the    ISO 9001:2000 quality management  certificate.  This  certifi- cate will be a stepping stone into the upcoming  market  trend  that  will  be set  in  motion  by  the  government’s abolition   of   exclusive   agencies   as more  consideration  would  be  given to   service,   solutions   and   systems integration. On  another  note,  we  are  currently aiming to concentrate our efforts on products and systems where we can add  value  through  our  engineering know-how.  A  point  in  case  are  the new systems that we have introduced lately,   mainly   low   pressure   CO2, kitchen  hood  fire  protection,  water mist and structured Cabling. You can read  more  about  these  systems  in various articles of this newsletter. Again, I would like to stress that the best   way   to   judge   a   company’s potential  is  to  visit  its  premises  and gauge  its  setup.  To  this  purpose,  I hereby extend to you an open invita- tion   to   experience   first   hand   our capabilities and competencies. I hope that this newsletter would pro- vide  you  with  more  insight  into  our business  and  wish  you  happy  read- ing. Service, Solutions and Systems Integration are the Future On June   14th   and   16th,   ZOD   Security received the visit of Mr. John Glackin from the British Standards  Institute  who  conducted  the initial audit   for   the   ISO   9001:2000.   After spending two days touring the different depart- ments and processes of the company, Mr. Glackin decided to recommend ZOD Security to receive the ISO 9001:2000 certification. His report included the fol- lowing statement: “Top management commitment is a strong fac- tor, in the successful operation of this QMS. The staff were co- operative  and  friendly,  and  appeared  com- fortable with the QMS application.” To  celebrate,  the  company  organ- ized a small gathering for its employ- ees to celebrate the event. ZOD   Security   is   now   proud   to   hold   an   ISO 9001:2000  certificate  no.  FS  72352  from  BSI  for “the  sale,  installation  and  servicing  of  security  and safety equipment, and support services”. BS  EN  ISO  9001:  2000  Certificate No. FS 72352 GENT 34000 at The “Park View Reality” Project ZOD Security recently supplied the fire alarm sys- tem  for  the  Park  View  Reality  project  sea-front luxurious   appartments   building.   The   Electro- Mechanical contractors on this project are BMS - Building Maintenance and Sub Contracting Co.” carried out the electrical works. Brand-Rex Product Launch at the Riviera Hotel On September 18th & 19th, ZOD Security launched a new solution on the Lebanese mar- ket: Structured Cabling by Brand-Rex part of NOVAR, introduced in our previous newslet- ter.  The  launch  took  place  at  the  Riviera  Hotel  in  the General  Manager  of  Middle  East  &  Africa,  and  Mr. Manager. During the week of September 15th, several seminars and hands-on demonstrations took place in ZOD’s training facilities to better acquaint consultants with the system. Over 30 engineers attended these sessions for a period of 3 days, at the end of which participants were issued with training certificates. 2 ZOD Security N E W S L E T T E R F a l l   2 0 0 3 A  totally  new  resource  management  and RCS   accreditation   software   solution   just released  by  AUSTCO,  Australia’s  largest manufacturer of call management systems promises  to  reduce  significantly  the  time spent  by  care  staff  in  documenting  RCS and care information. A recent report from the Australian Healthcare Associates backs   up   an   earlier   study   by   Aged   and   Community Services Australia that found that full time care staff are spending 22-25% of their time on documentation. Not only does this reduce the provision of hands on care to the resident but it is driving away careers from the indus- try who rate excessive paperwork as an unattractive part of the job. The  feedback  by  users  is  that  the quantitative    documentation    pro- vided   with   CallCare   allows   rigid analysis  of  intervention  and  costs allowing in most cases a justifiably higher    RCS    classification    to    be claimed. When  asked  to  comment,  Robert Grey,  CEO  of  AUSTCO  stated:  “It  is  hard  enough  to retain and recruit new staff in the industry due to difficult working  conditions,  staff  shortages  and  lower  pay  than acute care staff. We have found that excessive paperwork can be easily eliminated with our innovative software and touch screen technology.” AUSTCO  is  the  world  leader  in  call  management  solu- tions    for    aged    care    and    worked    closely    with    their Australian  clients  to  develop  an  accreditation  and  care management solution using staff touch screens integrat- Ending the Paper Chase by Robert Grey C.E.O. ed with their existing resident, staff call, dementia   management   and   analysis systems. “Our clients had very specific require- ments,” added Robert Grey. “Our sys- tems had to improve resident care and staff   productivity   while   reducing   cost and risk. We managed this by adding software modules to our existing pop- ular age care call system “CallGuard” providing an upgrade path to our more than 1500 exist- ing Australian clients.” The specific features of the new CallCare release that has excited the industry are: 1. Graphical site map showing call status - guides new      and agency staff. 2. Resource Management - simple touch and drag allo cation of staff and resources. 3. Risk Management - security module guards against both wanderers and intruders. 4. Dementia Monitoring - residents’ behavior prompts automatic alerts to staff. 5. Management Analysis - all data is easily accessed and graphically displayed. 6. Comprehensive Database - replaces most paper sys tems in use. 7. Comprehensive reporting - administration tool to measure service provision. 8. Detailed prompted RCS classification data - no hand writing, just touch select. 9. Resident essential data form can be printed instantly for filing or transfer. 10. Residents’ level of care assignment alters the response by staff reducing risk. Hose reels from NOHA have also been approved for installation in the library. The new library building is one of a series of new construction projects that the university is currently undertaking as part of its growth plans. MAN   Entreprise,   main   project   contractors   and   ETEC   -   Etudes Techniques, project consultants awarded ZOD Security the installa- tion of security systems at the new Ecole Nationale d’Administration (ENA) in Baabda. ZOD is installing an advanced CCTV obser- vation system from VIDEOTRONIC (Germany) based on a VMS matrix   along   with   14   cameras   and   2   x   17”   monitors,   an armored door tailor-made by ZOD. Fire Protection Systems at USEK ZOD Security has been awarded the supply and installation of the fire pro- tection  systems  at  the  Spinneys’  new location at Jnah. The systems include a   GENT   34000   analogue   address- able  system,  low-pressure  water  mist fire suppression system from SECURIPLEX    INC.    and    hose    reels from NOHA of Norway that meet the latest European norms for hose reels: the EN 671-1. The fire alarm system is based on the GENT    340000    analogue    address- able panel and features around 200 outstations   and   7   beam   detectors. The  beam  detectors  used  in  this  sys- tem are unique to GENT as they are loop  powered  of  the  true  analogue addressable   type   and   therefore   do not require additional power box. Like all   others   outstations   in   the   system 34000, the addressable beam detec- tors are fitted with built-in isolators. The  project  will  also  feature  a  low- pressure  water  mist  fire  suppression system from our partners, SECURIPLEX    INC    of    Canada.    The SECURIPLEX   system   will   protect   the generator   hall,   fuel   tank   room   and the    electrical    room    in    the    project. Unlike   CO2,   water   mist   is   safe   for human   occupants   and   there   is   no need for complete sealing of the pro- tected space before discharge. Another major advantage of the pro- posed system is that it is a low-pres- sure system (only 5 bars) which means that   regular   piping   can   be   utilized doing   away   with   the   need   to   use expensive   high   pressure   distribution systems    common    in    high    pressure (200-bar) water mist systems. ZOD to Offer Innovative Water Mist Fire Suppression Systems ZOD Security has recently signed an international distribu- tion  agreement  with  SECURIPLEX  INC.  of  Canada  for  the supply of low-pressure Water Mist Fire Suppression System in Lebanon. SECURIPLEX, a member of the Canadian giant engineering   firm,   SNC   Lavalin   Group,   is   a   recognized leader in North America in the design and supply of low- pressure Fire Suppression Systems and have had an instru- mental role in the development of NFPA 750, the code governing the design and installation of Water Mist Systems. The SECURIPLEX system, AQUAPRO, is a 5-bar system, which means that it uses regular piping and fittings doing away with the need for expensive stainless steel piping and pressure fittings. The system also does not require any special water supply and can use the same water generally used for other fire fighting systems in the building. Unlike CO2 system, Water Mist Systems are safe for human occupants and can be  used  safely  where  maintenance  crews  are  expected  to  be  present.  Another major advantage is that Water Mist does not require complete sealing of the pro- tected spaces, a must in gaseous extinguishing systems. This translates into major savings in the cost of motorized fire dampers, which are major cost items in such systems. SECURIPLEX water mist systems are FM approved for total flooding and direct applications. ZOD  Security  has  been  appointed  a distributor    for    BADGER    INDUSTRY GUARD Dry Chemical Fire Suppression    Systems    and    BADGER RANGE GUARD Wet Chemical Systems for kitchen hood fire protec- tion.
